Gary uses imagery from an endless source of visual and cultural material. His paintings often evolve from collages made using cuttings rather than from digital production. “I prefer the hands-on approach. There is something magical about the painting process, squeezing paint from a tube, mixing and applying the paint with a brush to canvas. The paintings can deviate from the collage as they progress and I’m mindful to keep an element of ambiguity and mystery to my work”.
